Wills Memorial Hospital and the Medical College of Georgia are joining hands
in an effort to create a new and unique
health care environment for Wilkes and the surrounding counties. Wills
and MCG have began to share notes, procedures and medical professionals
in the first stages of this new union. The Medical College of Georgia
and
Wills Memorial Hospital hope to create a model for other small and
large hospitals across the United States
and therefore strengthen health care for all communities.

Wills Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed full service, JCAHO accredited hospital, which employs 170 full and part-time staff and is governed by the Hospital Authority of Wilkes County. The current facility was dedicated and named in August of 1961 in memorial to Dr. Charles Edward Wills, Sr., a prominent physician who practiced in Washington.
In August 1993, the hospital was 'rededicated' with a new Emergency Department, Ambulatory/Outpatient Care Center, Radiology Department and a Six Bed Critical Care Unit. In addition, new state-of-the-art equipment was purchased and a total renovation of the existing building was completed, making Wills Memorial Hospital one of the more attractive facilities in the area.
The medical staff consists of seven physicians on the active staff, which include Family Practice, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with twenty additional physicians having clinic and courtesy privileges.
Wills Memorial Hospital Specialty Center currently
consists of Urology,
General Surgery, Cardiology, Gynecology and ENT satellite clinics staffed by MCG
affiliated physicians. Call 706-678-3247 to schedule appointments.
Additional outpatient clinics currently consists of Orthopedics and
Podiatry.
The hospital is capable of performing the latest
cardiology diagnostic
testing such as echocardiography and stress tests. In addition, hospital
outpatient services are available in Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Twenty-four hour Respiratory Care,
Laboratory, and Radiology Services are available within the hospital.
Routine diagnostic outpatient testing hours are Monday-Friday 8a-8p and
Saturday 8a-12n.
